5 specific moments from professional Starcraft in 2007 that stood out for me.

#5 “rA builds a… Robotics Facility?!”

Never has mere fact of building a robotics facility been so climactic… Unaware UpMagiC is on a crazy 4 barracks MnM build nal_rA goes for a standard robo tech/reavers. You know special things are in store for this game the moment the robo starts up instead of a citadel. This crucial moment in an ACE match in May of 2007 is my #5 moment from ‘07.

#4 “Casy’s fake fast expo”

Casey’s fake fast expo became very well known throughout the Starcraft community. The fake, and his ownage of July moments later is great and innovative Starcraft- thus earning a spot at #4. You can hear the confusion of the commentators at first when 5 SCV’s head out to mine minerals from a base with no CC. (I’d be confused too!) In a move of sheer brilliance Casy totally faked out July in this great move and won the game.

#3 “GGPlay’s 9 pool and Iris’s gosu SCV”

“SCV! SCV!” is shouted during this crucial moment as GGPlay rushes 6 lings up Iris’s ramp before Iris’s SCV’s block it off. This OSL final series was only 4 minutes old and yet one of the most action packed Starcraft sequences was witnessed as GGPlay opted to 9pool into speedlings in this first game. Iris responds with an equally amazing play of his own though, killing 3 of GGPlay’s drones during the melee. The excitement is felt through the announcers, you don’t have to speak Korean to feel the passion during this moment, #3 on my list…

#2 “GGPlay’s lurker hold”

In this epic game (up for Starcraft game of the year award in Korea) GGPlay made one outstanding move which might have saved him the game. Iris fought off most of GGPlay’s early muta harass without taking a whole lot of damage. As Iris knocks on GGPlay’s door with a sizable force GGPlay held 3 of his lurkers positioned further out of his choke. Taking out a good 10 marines in 2 shots GGPlay forced Iris back and bought enough time to fight off Iris’s push and eventually win the game. This moment takes #2 on my list, listen to the announcers as Iris walks into the lurker trap, that’s OSL game 5 intensity at its max.

#1 “Nada moves out”

In my most exciting moment of 2007- Nada’s down by a game facing a nearly unstoppable Savior. The setting is Game 4 of the ShinHan OSL in March of 2007 on the map Hitchhiker. Nada blocks Saviors expansion for a moment, then repels the early ling pressure. He then goes to move out with 6 rines and 2 scvs. Thus ensues Nada’s last desperate attempt to fight his way into a game 5. You can literally feel the electricity in the air as two Starcraft titans duke it out on Starcrafts largest stage…

The New York Pitbulls overcame a series of injuries to defeat the Tokyo Sabres 3-2, earning the right to meet the Silverbacks for the International Fight League championship ring in Hollywood, Florida.
